The three writing tâches
Tâche 1 (60–120 words, ~15 minutes): a short everyday message — an email, invitation or note — covering every point the prompt asks for. Example prompt from our bank:
“Répondez au courriel de votre ami Lucas pour lui donner des informations sur les nouveaux locaux de votre entreprise (lieu, disposition des pièces, équipements, etc.).”
Tâche 2 (120–150 words, ~20 minutes): an article, blog post or testimonial recounting an experience, with structure, past tenses, and a hook for the reader.
Tâche 3 (120–180 words, ~25 minutes): summarise two documents with opposing viewpoints, then give your own justified opinion with connectors and a concession — the skill examiners weight most heavily.

What are the TCF Canada writing tasks?
Expression écrite has three tâches completed in 60 minutes total: Tâche 1, a short message of 60–120 words; Tâche 2, an article or blog post of about 120–150 words; and Tâche 3, a synthesis of two opposing documents plus your justified opinion in 120–180 words. The paper is scored 0–20.
What writing score do I need for CLB 7?
10 out of 20 (NCLC 7 = 10–11). CLB 9 requires 14, and CLB 10 requires 16. Examiners reward completing every part of each tâche, structure, connectors, and register as much as grammar.
How does the writing feedback work?
As you write, you get a live word count against the official range for the tâche. On submit, the analysis highlights your logical connectors, flags overused words, measures vocabulary variety and sentence length, and then reveals a complete model answer for the exact prompt.
How many prompts are included?
